Offroad Tool List
Before you head out on that weekend trip make sure you vehicle is equipped with the proper tools. Often time you only needs the necessary tools to fix your rig, but having some other items also can come in handy in a pinch. Use this list as a guide to help you out.
This first part is a bare minimum that should be in all tool boxes:
- Air pressure gauge
- Allen wrenches/ hex keys
- Baling wire/wire hanger
- Cresent wrench(small and medium)
- Grease
- Electrical tape
- Hammer
- nuts and bolts of assorted sizes
- Box end wrenches (3/8 to 3/4 minimum)
- Pliers
- diagonal cutters/side cutters
- Pocket/utility knife
- Screw drivers
- Socket set (3/8 minimum with extensions)
- Vise Grips
Then you are better safe than sorry with these next items. Some depend on your accessories on your rig (winch) other will save your life.
- Air compressor
- Axe
- Blanket
- Bow saw
- bucket
- Bungee cords
- Can opener
- Candles
- Cigarette Lighter
- Cell Phone
- Compass/ Handheld GPS unit
- Duct Tape (million uses)
- Fire extinguisher
- flashlight
- first aide kit
- Hi lift Jack
- ID card, with emergency phone number contact info & medication/allergy information
- Leather Gloves
- Mirror (for signaling)
- Paper towels
- Rags
- shovel
- Spare clothes
- Tarp
- trash Bags
- Water proof matches
- WD-40
- Winch kit – including straps, snatch block (pulley), shackle
- Zip ties
You may also want to take along some spare parts, depending how far from civilization you are going.
- Air filter
- Belts
- Fuel filter
- Fuses
- Hoses and several sizes of hose clamps
- Oil
- Oil filter
- Some brake line
- Spark plugs (cap and distributor for those without fuel injection)
- Tire valve stems with cores
- Tires (don’t forget a good full-size spare!)
- U-joints
- Vacuum line (a small piece)
A good rule of thumb is if you have broken it twice before it is a must, because it will happen again!
